The gallant Stars of Ghana, yesterday, beat their Nigerian counterparts by 2 goals to 1 in a friendly match. The match begun with both teams showing strong desire to finish it off by the end of the first half. Each team displayed graet skill and cohession, as the ball switched from one half of the field to the other. However, it was the Ghanaians who took the lead in the 27th minute through Martins who skillfully controlled a beautiful cross from Felix (Boga) and sent the ball past the Nigerian goalie. The whole stadium atmosphere was charged as spectators sung and cheered their players on.The game proceeded fairly balanced till the end of the first half with both teams playing very well.

The second half of the game begun earlier than schedule as it was fast getting dark. The Nigerians played very well and on two ocassions came very close to scoring but the defence of the Stars of Ghana was just too difficult to beat. The Nigerians, however, got their breakthrough when their top striker overpowered the Ghanaian defence and shot a low one into the left coner of the post to pull them on level pecking.

The game became very physical after the equaliser with both  teams launching crunching tackles here and there. In the 72nd minute of the match the Ghanaians came close to scoring but Greyer's ball was handled in the eighteen box and both the refree and his assistant signalled for  penalty. Bankus picked the ball to the penalty spot and finished it cooly to send the Ghanaians on top.

The Ghanaians held onto this lead regardless of the immense pressure from the Nigerians till the refree blasted his whistle for the end  of the match.
